- The Board was created on December 21, 1922, as the result of an initiative measure approved by the voters of California on November 7, 1922. To date, over 30,655 licenses have been issued. This includes Chiropractic, Satellite Office and Corporation licenses. As the number of licensees has grown, so has the Board's organization and staff. Presently, a full-time Executive Officer manages a staff comprised of fourteen full-time and three part-time employees working in an increasingly complex program, which includes licensing, enforcement, and fiscal & support services units.

- Board members attend public meetings where all policy decisions are made. Board meetings are held several times a year on Thursday. Members serve on various committees including:
- Enforcement Committee
- Licensing Committee
- Continuing Education Committee
- Legislation/Regulation Committee
- Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA) Committee
- Administrative Committee
- Enforcement
- During FY 2005/06, 796 complaints were received and processed. The Board's increasingly aggressive discipline program aims to become a model consumer protection program, enhanced by improved consumer and professional education publications distribution.
